Did you know that more than 90% of all email traffic is spam? As a hosting provider, VEVIDA deals with a lot of spam every day. We block a large portion of all spam by using blacklists. Blacklists are lists of IP addresses that are known to be sources of spam. For the remaining messages, we constantly strive to find a balance between filtering spam messages and guaranteeing that the right messages get delivered.
Anti-spam policy
VEVIDA chooses not to block spam automatically. We give you the tools you need to filter spam according to your own preferences. The advantage of this is that no email can vanish without a trace, as with some other hosting providers. VEVIDA uses SpamAssassin to give your email a ’spam-score’. You can have email with a high spam-score deleted automatically in your email program, or have it placed in a separate folder. Please feel free to contact our customer service if you need help with these settings.
Forwarding and spam
When forwarding your email, that is, sending it directly from your VEVIDA email address to another email address, it is not possible to set the VEVIDA spam filter yourself. Forwarding can therefore lead to the spam messages you receive being forwarded directly by VEVIDA, which can lead to VEVIDA being seen as a spam sender. If this happens often, VEVIDA itself can be placed on a blacklist. In that case, none of our customers who use a VEVIDA email address would then be able to send email to the email addresses of businesses where we have been placed on the blacklist. Of course we aim to prevent this.
Technical modification
We want our customers to be able to use their VEVIDA email addresses without any disruption. For this reason we have made a technical modification for forwarding email. If SpamAssassin marks an email as spam and you use forwarding, then we delete that email. The result of this is that we do not get onto blacklists and all our customers can use their email without any problems. If you wish to be sure that you do not lose any email, we recommend that you use your VEVIDA email directly instead of forwarding. You can then decide how you wish to deal with suspected spam yourself.
VEVIDA continues to work on better solutions for fighting spam and improving its services.
