4000 free .eu-domains

4000enThis month the .eu-domain will have been in existence 4 years; just one excellent reason for turning the spotlight on this popular domain with its European feel. One way of doing this is by giving away 4000 .eu-domains for free. All you have to do is register a new domain name with VEVIDA or move an existing domain name over to VEVIDA before 1 July 2010. For each domain registered you will get a campaign code for 1 free .eu-domain. You can use the code for your own purposes or even make it a surprise present for someone else. You can set up as many campaign codes as you like, but be quick, the free codes are restricted to a maximum of 4000. Finished = finished; completely.

Visit our campaign site: www.europe-campaign.eu for the campaign rules and registration.
Of course you can also simply register at https://vevida.com.

Innovations

We currently use Windows Server 2003 to serve your website. We are in the process of gradually moving over to Windows Server 2008. Over the past months we have been busy extensively testing this new version and fine-tuning the configuration for our hosting platform. With the new operating system you will hardly notice any changes at your end in the first instance, however Windows Server 2008 supports a number of innovations which you will immediately benefit from. The new IIS 7 web server lets you look after things yourself, the ftp-cloud enables secure uploading and ISAPI Rewrite 3 ensures you are easier to find with short web addresses.

IIS 7: look after things yourself

IIS (Internet Information Services) 7, the new web server coming with Windows Server 2008, is a substantial improvement on the previous version. This means your website will be faster and more stable. In addition, with the IIS Manager programme you are now much more in control from behind your own computer. Particularly good news for webmasters; for with a simple interface they are now able among other things to install default documents, error pages, mime types, http redirects and request filtering. IIS Manager also has its own wizard making it simple and easy to define long web addresses (URLs). You can download and install IIS Manager for free (Windows XP and higher only).

Ftp-cloud: permanently secure uploading

Due to our new ‘ftp-cloud’, from now on your files will always be securely uploaded via ftp (file transfer protocol). Thanks to Hyper-V, the new virtualisation technology, three ftp-servers now work in unison as one virtual server. The term for such a virtual collection is a ‘cloud’. If necessary, a second or third ftp-server can always take over. This means you will always be able to upload your files. In addition, the connection between your ftp-programme and the ftp-cloud is automatically safeguarded with TLS (transport layer security), preventing anyone from monitoring your log-in details or observing which files you are uploading. Secure and sound. Would you like to upload your files securely via our ftp-cloud? Then make ‘ftp.vevida.com’ your host in your ftp-programme. Your user name and password will remain the same. If you have any queries about uploading, then please do not hesitate to contact our customer service department. We look forward to helping you.

ISAPI Rewrite 3: easier to be found with short web addresses

Many web logs and web shops use short web addresses (URLs) to optimise their website for search engines. To achieve this they often use a configuration file with the name ‘.htaccess’. You can download this file fully ready for uploading to your website, making your content easier to be found. To support these files, we have installed ISAPI Rewrite 3 as an extension to our web servers. If you would like further information on how you can describe URLs, have a look at our service page covering this subject: https://vevida.com/nl/service/274.

Europeans know and trust the .eu-domain

May 20th, 2010

eu81% of internet users within Europe know what a domain name is and more than half are aware of .eu. Further, they experience .eu as both innovative and trustworthy when compared to other top- level domains (TLD’s). These findings were published on 28 April 2010 as part of a brand and adoption research carried out under the auspices of EURid, the organisation responsible for the .eu-domain. This research also demonstrates that 17% of internet users within Europe have a domain name, while another 15% would like to register for a (or another) domain name. Of these 15%, a quarter has indicated a preference for the .eu-domain.

Who can register an .eu-domain name?

Anyone resident in the European Union can register an .eu-domain. Your nationality is unimportant. Companies and organisations operating within the EU may also register an .eu-domain.

Some numbers

More than 3.2 million .eu-domains have already been registered, making .eu the ninth largest domain in the world.

Good can always get better.

May 20th, 2010

Thankfully most things go well with VEVIDA. We have many satisfied customers, their loyalty and their generous word of mouth recommendations alone express this. Our systems are particularly reliable, with few disturbances and a high uptime rate verging on 100%. However, infallibility does not figure among our claims. Despite our very best efforts to deliver you the ultimate service, in this business things can go wrong or situations are sometimes incorrectly assessed. In the event of such, it is good to know that we have a solid complaints procedure in place, ensuring that your complaint will be dealt with immediately and appropriately.

Dissatisfied? Let us be the first to know.

All of our staff are fully briefed on our complaints procedure, ensuring that you will have a response to your complaint within two working days. Experience has demonstrated that in many cases we can also have a solution in place within the same timeframe. The best route forward is to contact our customer service department in the first instance and explain the problem. Often they can remedy the issue on the spot.

Still dissatisfied? Then please do not hesitate to pursue the matter further. Please contact us with your remarks or complaints at complaints@vevida.com. We will then do our very best to resolve the source of your dissatisfaction as quickly as possible.

Satisfied? Let everyone else know.

Of course we do enjoy hearing from you as a satisfied consumer of our services. Rest assured however, we will avoid reclining too far back on our laurels, but rather this will have the effect of only motivating us further. One of the best compliments you can pay us is to let others know how satisfied you are with the services we provide. If you would like to do something proactive about this, posting a message on one of the many comparison sites which appraise providers such as www.webhosters.nl really would have our appreciation.
