Innovations

February 23rd, 2010

innovatie_90pixFeedback from our customers allows us to continuously improve our systems for you. In recent months our R&D team has worked hard on a number of important innovations. For example, this month we will install the first web server with Windows Server 2008 and IIS 7 in the rack. After we have extensively tested this new configuration, we will equip all the web servers with this new operating system over the next few months. This will make our hosting environment safer, more stable, more scalable and ready for the latest developments. But we don’t lose sight of small improvements: that is why we are now implementing 3 updates for which we have received many requests. These updates are mainly intended to make things even easier for you.

Mailbox full!

If your mailbox is full, you can no longer receive new messages. The sender then receives a message that he can’t send you email, but you don’t hear anything about this. This is very annoying, because of course you don’t want to miss any email! To solve this problem, we will now automatically send you a message when your mailbox is almost full. This will explain what you can do to continue using your email without needing to worry. You will also receive a warning once your mailbox is completely full. That’s handy!

phpMyAdmin

Many customers use the free MySQL database in their hosting package for a weblog, web shop or CMS. The database is easy to manage with phpMyAdmin (https://mysql.myvevida.com/). Internet Explorer users could not log in after we installed a newer version of phpMyAdmin. This issue has been resolved with the latest version of that software.

MySQL Connector/NET

The MySQL database can also be used together with the powerful ASP.NET Framework. Many customers choose this kind of free database as an alternative to the more professional, but also more expensive, Microsoft SQL Server 2008. We have now reconfigured our hosting platform to make it suitable for MySQL Connector/NET. This is a much better way to connect to a MySQL database than the MySQL ODBC driver, which is also sometimes used for this. More information about MySQL can be found on our service page (http://vevida.com/nl/service/181#746).

VEVIDA customer satisfaction graded 7.6!

February 23rd, 2010

heliviewHeliview Research conducted an independent customer satisfaction survey for VEVIDA between 2 November and 4 December. Several hundred customers answered questions in a telephone interview on our service, products and image among other things. Customers were also asked about possible points for improvement. And… we are proud of the results. You gave us a grade of 7.6/10!

Good grades

You give VEVIDA good grades. Especially the reliability (safety and availability) are highly appreciated with an 8.1. Customer service also got a good mark: 7.7. As the most important distinguishing factor relative to other hosting providers, our service and quality-price ratio were mentioned, with the third item being our response speed.

Points for improvement

But there is always room for improvement! There are always some things that don’t work perfectly or questions that are not answered clearly enough. Fortunately, we also received a few points for improvement, which are very valuable and that we consider to be indispensible to tuning our services to your wishes and needs. For instance, VEVIDA can further improve the after-sales and information provision. The way in which you can submit a complaint and how we handle it can be further clarified. We are already working on these points.

References are very important

It is striking that over 81% of customers came to VEVIDA through references from family, acquaintances or business relations. And 89% of our customers say that they would recommend VEVIDA to someone else. This once again shows how important word-of-mouth advertising is - and how important it is for us to meet your expectations. So: If you are satisfied, tell someone else. If you are not satisfied, tell us!

We would like to warmly thank everyone who participated in this survey and we hope that we can call on you again next year.

Less personal data in .nl whois

February 23rd, 2010

sidn_logoAs of 12 January, significantly less personal data is shown in the public whois of a .nl domain. The whois allows you to see who holds the domain, and their contact information. SIDN, the administrator of the .nl domain, has modified the public whois to better protect the privacy of domain name holders. Many holders were not satisfied with the publication of their address information and telephone number. The address of the holder and the names and telephone numbers of the administrative and technical contact people are now no longer publicly available.

What is still displayed?

The name of the holder is still displayed, so that he can check that the domain is registered in his name. The email addresses of the administrative and technical contact people are also still shown so that the holder or one of his representatives can be reached if there are problems with the domain name.

Not blocked for everyone

The information on a holder is not fully blocked for everyone. Bailiffs and lawyers based in the Netherlands can still call up the address of a holder from SIDN to be able to sue him. Further, investigation and enforcement authorities can obtain conditional automated access to all the information that is registered with a domain name.

Anti-harvesting measures

The whois is also better protected against large-scale automated requests (harvesting) of whois information. This harvesting is often used to collect email addresses for sending spam. Email addresses are no longer shown in the whois if the whois is called up via the command line. Email addresses can no longer be found in the HTML code on the SIDN website. Soon, SIDN will further secure the whois on its website with a CAPTCHA: visitors must then retype the text in an illustration that cannot be read by machines.
